Covered Preventive Care Services for Women

PPACA, familiarly known as the Health Reform Law, now requires health insurance carriers to cover specifically-defined preventive care services, and many of these services focus on women. While insurance companies don’t always define preventive care services in exactly the same way – for instance, some companies will define more services as “Preventive Care” than others—they must all comply with the minimum guidelines as set forth in PPACA. Those services include yearly well-woman exams, breastfeeding support and counseling, screening for certain sexually-transmitted diseases, and contraceptive coverage.
